Password Generator — Create Strong, Secure Passwords
Create a strong, unpredictable password in one click. Choose the length and which characters to include, check the strength rating and copy it straight to your clipboard. Passwords are generated with your browser’s secure random number generator and are never sent or stored.
How to use the Password Generator
- Set the password length with the slider — 16 characters or more is recommended.
- Choose which character types to include: uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
- Press Generate for a new password and check the strength meter.
- Press Copy and paste the password into your password manager or the sign-up form.
What makes a password strong?
Length matters most. Every extra character multiplies the number of guesses an attacker needs. A random 16-character password mixing letters, numbers and symbols would take billions of years to crack by brute force, while a common word with a number on the end can fall in seconds.
Randomness matters too. People are predictable — we choose names, dates and keyboard patterns. A generator has no habits, which is exactly why its output is safer.
Good password habits
Use a different password for every account, store them in a reputable password manager and switch on two-factor authentication wherever it is offered. Never share passwords by email or chat, and change a password immediately if a service reports a breach.
Ideas & examples
- New online account: Generate a 20-character password with all character types and save it in your password manager.
- Wi-Fi password: Switch off symbols for a long letters-and-numbers password that is easy to type on a TV or console.
- Sites that dislike symbols: Some old forms reject special characters. Turn symbols off and raise the length to compensate.
Frequently asked questions
Are the passwords really random?
Yes. They use your browser’s cryptographically secure random generator (crypto.getRandomValues), the same source used for security-critical tasks.
Do you store or see my passwords?
No. Passwords are created on your device and are never uploaded, logged or saved.
How long should my password be?
At least 14–16 characters for normal accounts, and 20 or more for important ones such as email and banking.
What does ‘exclude look-alike characters’ do?
It removes characters that are easy to confuse, such as O and 0 or l and 1, which is useful when you need to type the password by hand.
Should I memorise generated passwords?
No. Use a password manager so you only need to remember one strong master password.
